IN 1978, LCOL CARGO SAW THE LIGHT AND CHANGED HIS CAREER PATH, TRANSFERRING TO THE AEROSPACE ENGINEERING CLASSIFICATION. IN 1979 HE WAS POSTED TO CFB OTTAWA AND IN 1980 WAS PROMOTED TO CAPTAIN AND SELECTED FOR FRENCH LANGUAGE TRAINING. LCOL CARGO BECAME THE SQUADRON AIRCRAFT MAINTENANCE ENGINEERING OFFICER SAMEO AT 450 SQN, OTTAWA WHERE HE REMAINED UNTIL 1983. IN 1984 HE WAS PROMOTED TO MAJOR. IN 1985 HE COMPLETED HIS MASTERS DEGREE IN RELIABILITY ENGINEERING AT THE UNIVERSITY OF ARIZONA AND WAS POSTED TO NDHQ WITH RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE AIRCRAFT MAINTENANCE MANAGEMENT INFORMATION SYSTEM. HE WAS POSTED TO THE AIRCRAFT MAINTENANCE DEVELOPMENT UNIT, TRENTON IN 1988 AS THE MAINTENANCE ANALYSIS OFFICER. THIS WAS FOLLOWED IN 1991 BY A POSTING TO THE CF SCHOOL OF COMMUNICATIONS AND ELECTRONICS IN KINGSTON, WHERE LCOL CARGO SERVED AS STAFF OFFICER TO THE COMMANDANT. IN 1993 LCOL CARGO WAS SELECTED FOR THE CANADIAN FORCES COMMAND AND STAFF COLLEGE. UPON GRADUATION IN 1994 HE WAS POSTED TO THE UK AS THE CF EXCHANGE OFFICER WITHIN HEADQUARTERS LOGISTICS COMMAND HQLC WITH THE ROYAL AIR FORCE, FIRST AT THE CENTRAL SERVICING AND DEVELOPMENT ESTABLISHMENT, RAF SWANTON MORLEY, NORFOLK, AND SUBSEQUENTLY AT RAF WYTON, CAMBRIDGESHIRE . IN 1997, LCOL CARGO WAS PROMOTED TO LCOL AND POSTED TO THE CANADIAN DEFENCE LIAISON STAFF IN LONDON AS ASSISTANT AIR FORCE ADVISER. LCOL CARGO RETURNED TO CANADA, NDHQ, IN 1999, SERVING IN THE DIRECTORATE TECHNICAL AIRWORTHINESS DTA AND ON THE CAS AIR STAFF AS THE AIR FORCE BUSINESS MANAGER. IN JULY 2007,HE ASSUMED HIS CURRENT POSITION IN THE DIRECTORATE PROTOCOL AND FOREIGN LIAISON. 2. DOUG WILL REMAIN IN THE OTTAWA AREA.
