Hello Class of 1976,
I did not think that I would ever complete 25 years of military service but I
did. For about half my service the CF was at war while the country was at peace.
I made lieutenant twice. My regiment, The British Columbia Dragoons in Kelowna,
BC, sent 33 soldiers to Afghanistan and I recruited and trained some of them.
They all came back. My brother, David Hisdal, is a member of the Class of 1978,
and was at the ceremony with me which occurred just before the Gothic Line
Dinner on 13 Sep 2014. LCol Andy McQuilkin, Class of 1980 and my last CO is
looking on in the RSM photograph. Having a civilian career at the same time made
things harder while serving as a reservist but this time the transition to
civilian life was much better. The Departure With Dignity ceremony was a good
thing and I only wish that more of you could have had it as well.
My best wishes to you all,
Howard Hisdal, CD, MA
